Home Grown Energy

Approximately 80% of Cambodians live in rural areas with limited access to clean and affordable energy. Biodigesters are among the simple, small, and cost-effective clean energy technologies that can make a big difference in the lives of the rural poor. Biodigesters eliminate the need for fuel wood, and significantly reduce the expense of kerosene for lightning.

Microfinance institution PRASAC and the National Biodigester Programme (NBP) have been collaborating in 12 provinces to provide loans for biodigester plants since 2007. One of the 6,000 clients, who have taken up  a loan from PRASAC to have a small biodigester plant constructed, is Mrs Sineun, a 30-year old farmer living in Kdout Kanleng.
